Water Garden Improvements

The Founder’s Water Garden is a prominent feature at Cox Arboretum MetroPark.  Constructed in 1982 the water garden includes the upper pond and a landscaped, rock-strewn stream watered by a recirculating pump.  Thirty-two years of accumulated silt diminished the holding capacity of the pond and reduced the functionality of the recirculating pump.  Removing the silt from the pond restored the pond to its former glory, increasing efficiencies and assuring continued operation of the stream.  The silt removal increased the water storage capacity of the upper pond, which can serve as a future water source for plant irrigation.  This complements the sustainability message of the Barbara Cox Center for Sustainable Horticulture.
