Main Entrance Plantings

A planting of more than 40 Scarlet Oak trees along the winding entrance drive was a gift from Frank Scott, in loving memory of his late wife, Emily. Emily was both a frequent visitor to the Arboretum and an active member of the Cox Arboretum Foundation, and we are grateful to be able to honor her with this display of native trees.

In addition to the plantings along the drive, we enhanced the main entrance to create a dramatic, immediate impact as visitors arrive at the Arboretum. Hetz Columnar Junipers (Juniperus chinensis 'Hetzii Columnaris'), Northern Charm Boxwoods (Buxus 'Wilson'), Scarlet Oaks (Quercus coccinea), Royal Star Magnolias (Magnolia stellata 'Royal Star'), Leonard Messel Magnolias (Magnolia x loebneri 'Leonard Messel'), and Swamp White Oaks (Quercus bicolor) now frame the Arboretum's main entrance and embrace visitors with a warm welcome.
