Herbs/Edible Plants: 9:00 am on Wednesdays. Hands-on learning experience in propagating, growing, maintaining and harvesting assorted edible plants in an ornamental kitchen-style garden. Group meets once a month for herb study and also assists with herb educational programs.

*Monday Nighters: 6:00 pm on Mondays. Propagate, plant and maintain herbs and companion plants for the Edible Landscape Garden.

*Weekenders: 9:00 am on Saturdays. Propagate, plant and maintain herbs and companion plants in the Edible Landscape Garden.

 

freelance*Freelance Gardening

Monday thru Sunday, 8:30-11:30 am and/or 12:30-3:30 pm. You choose the day and time that’s best for you. Work directly with our horticulture staff and assist with grounds maintenance projects including propagation, planting, plant grooming, mulching, weeding and removing invasive species. A minimum of two days’ notice is required so that we can add you to the work schedule.

9:00 am on Fridays. Propagate, grow and maintain alpine plants for the Rock Garden. Make hypertufa containers for the Garden Store and various events.

9:00 on Thursdays. Collect native seed from the Arboretum’s prairie, as well as from other natural areas within our region. Learn how to identify, harvest, store and propagate native plants. Propagated plants will be used to improve the quality of native areas throughout MetroParks. Sustainable harvesting practices are always carried out.

9:00 am on Tuesdays. Plant and maintain the Stonewall Perennial Garden, and assist the staff with special projects including the maintenance of various gardens throughout the grounds.

Greenhouse work including prepping native tree and shrub seeds for planting and transplanting seedlings after propagation.

*Woodland Wildflowers

9:30 am on Fridays or 10:00 am on Saturdays. Maintain the 4-acre Woodland Wildflower Garden, as well as propagate and grow wildflowers to plant and sell to the public at the annual Wildflower Sale.
