Visit Cox Arboretum MetroPark during the summer and be one of the nearly 40,000 guests who tour the Butterfly House each year to explore the fascinating world of pollinators! We are proud to be one of four Butterfly Houses in the region to exclusively feature species that are native to Ohio. Thanks to generous support from The DP&L Foundation, we are able to provide a variety of educational activities for you and your family to enjoy. Practice identifying different species of butterflies and moths, discover interesting tidbits about butterfly habits, and find out how to attract these fascinating insects to your own backyard.

As you approach the entrance to the Butterfly House, you will be greeted with a large sign displaying that day’s "residents". During butterfly season there may be as many as 20 native species to see, and the population in the Butterfly House changes from week to week. Monarchs, Giant Swallowtails, Red Admirals, and Black Swallowtails are just a few types of butterflies you may spot during your visit! Once inside the house, you will see colorful identification panels scattered along the path to aid in your search for caterpillars, butterflies, and moths. Step into the gazebo to check out the display of chrysalises and cocoons ready to morph into adult butterflies and moths.

Be sure to allow time to enjoy the pollinator garden that surrounds the Butterfly House, as well. Signs throughout the garden will help you identify what insects you might see enjoying the plants. Come visit us and see the exciting improvements we're making!
